Buteyko Breathing Method

Buteyko Breathing Method

The Buteyko Breathing Method is a breathing re-education technique that works on teaching patients to reduce and control ‘overbreathing’ or ‘hyperventiliating’ and to establish and maintain optimal breathing mechanics and behaviors. Practicing the technique develops subtle, soft, slow, light breathing while also maintaining diaphragmatic, nasal breathing. The method teaches nasal breathing and breath control to become a part of a patient’s daily life to help improve life in the following areas;

  • Asthma
  • Rhinitis (seasonal allergies)
  • Poor sleeping/chronic fatigue
  • Cystic fibrosis
  • Snoring and sleep apnea
  • Stress, anxiety, panic attacks, depression
